Jeyson Betancurt:
DOB 19-Jun-2001

Jeyson is from Tipitapa, Nica and is a twin. He was born with hydrocephaly, which is a failure of the spinal fluid around the brain to drain down the neck into the spinal canal where it is normally absorbed. Hence, the head dramatically enlarges and will eventually rupture. Julie Arce, pharmacist from Ada, OK and Jeff Hamblin, PA from Durant, OK first saw and examined Jeyson when his grandmother brought him to the farm at San Marcos from Jinotepe (about 40 miles). They called Dr. Michael Hahn, neurosurgeon, who agreed to see and treat Jeyson for free. Mercy Health Center in Oklahoma City, agreed to allow Jeyson to undergo free care and on Wednesday, Sept 18th, Jeyson had a ventriculo-peritoneal shunt placed to allow the fluid to begin draining. An evaluation by an opthalmalogist unfortunately reveals that Jeyson is likely already blind. We are hopeful that he will be somewhat normal but only God knows his future. His mother, Yadira, and Jeyson will likely be in the U.S. for 2-3 months for his treatment. Thanks to Dr. Hahn, Dr. Stephen Cagle, Dr. Bennett Fuller and all at Mercy Hospital for their compassion.

Juan Alexander Calero:
DOB 3-Dec-1999

Born in Managua, Nica with a Ventricular Septal Defect. Parents Juan and Aracely approached Dr. King at the July, 2000 mission with a request for help with surgery. Dr. Knott-Craig, M.D. from OU Children's Health Center performs repairing heart surgery and he was released from the hospital 4 days later. He is healthy and doing very well with no problems. He was probably within 2-3 weeks of dying from heart failure. God's prayers were answered and $22,000 was raised to pay his medical bills. His parents, Juan and Aracely, will be the first set of foster parents for the children's home, Los Ninos Del Rey.
